PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly determine the kind of a medium (the medium to be printed next) positioned on top even when thin media are stacked on each other. SOLUTION: This medium determination device is provided with a light source to radiate light to the medium, and a detection part to detect light generated from fluorescent agent when light from the light source is radiated to the media including the fluorescent agent. Based on result of detection by the detection part, the kind of the medium is determined.
