Disclosed is a negatively charged oxygen atom generator which is capable of producing negatively charged oxygen atoms at a lower temperature and a higher concentration than the conventional generators. Specifically disclosed is a negatively charged oxygen atom generator (1) comprising a fired oxide body selected from a fired cerium oxide body, a fired cerium oxide-aluminum oxide body and a fired body of cerium oxide and calcium-aluminum complex oxide, and a heating means (4) for heating the fired oxide body.
