PIXEL INTERPOLATION DISCRIMINATION CIRCUIT DETECTING APPARATUS, PIXEL INTERPOLATION APPARATUS, AND VIDEO SIGNAL PROCESSING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting an interpolation direction wherein a present pixel can be interpolated even when an edge in an oblique direction such as a slant exists in each interpolation pixel in the case of applying in-field interpolation to a video signal of interlace scanning.

SOLUTION: The interpolation discrimination circuit detecting apparatus particularizes a center pixel region A being a region around a target pixel T that is a pixel of an interpolation object including at least a plurality of present pixels E existing in a present field F and a plurality of surrounding pixel regions B0to B4, and C0to C4circularly arranged at a nearly equal distance from the target pixel T and including at least the plurality of present pixels E. The apparatus calculates the sum of pixel information items of pixels included in the particularized center pixel region A and the plurality of particularized surrounding pixel regions B0to B4, and C0to C4by each pixel region. The apparatus detects a direction providing the strongest correlation on the basis of the calculated sum by each pixel region and the positional relation of the calculated sum by each pixel region and discriminates the detected direction as the interpolation direction.
