PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column device which is suitable for a short column type steering column device for moving an upper universal fitting to follow telescopic adjustment of an inner column and has a telescopic clamp mechanism with high rigidity. SOLUTION: Slits S1, S2 are formed at the lower side of an outer column 3 over the total length in the axial direction. The slit S2 is formed continuously to the slit S1 at the front side of a vehicle body of clamp parts 31, 32, and has a width W2 larger than a width W1 of the slit S1. Thus, the lower side of the outer column 3 is formed as a completely opened type, and the outer column 3 is easily bent over the total length when clamped, so that holding force when clamped is uniformly applied over the total length in the axial direction, and the holding force when clamped is improved.
