PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger that is highly efficient, that can suppress temperature rise, and that can finish charging in a short time, using the current-limiting function of an external power supply. SOLUTION: The charger 2, to which DC electric power is supplied from the external power supply 1 having current-limiting function, comprises a reverse-current preventing switch 4; a switching step-down converter 15 that is made up of a switch 5, a rectifier 6, an inductor 7, and a capacitor 8; a detection resistor 9 for constant-current control; and a control circuit 10. Constant-current charging by the external power supply 1, the constant-current charging by the step-down converter 15, and constant-voltage charging by the converter 15 are switched by the control circuit 10, according to the voltage of a battery 3.
