摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a tetraalkylbiphenol (TABPL), capable of separating heavy impurities produced in an oxidative dimerization reaction as byproducts in a good handling. SOLUTION: This method for producing the TABPL comprises (A) a reaction process of performing the oxidative dimerization reaction of a dialkylphenol (DAPL) in an aqueous solvent to obtain a reaction liquid dispersed with the TABPL, (B) a solid liquid separation process of separating the obtained reaction liquid to the TABPL and liquid component and recovering, and (C) a distillation process of separating the unreacted DAPL and water from the separated liquid component and recovering. In the (C) distillation process, the method is provided by making a nucleating agent present in the liquid component of raw materials, granulating the heavy impurities separated accompanying with the progress of the distillation together with the nucleating agent, performing the distillation until the range that the granules of the heavy impurities can be maintained its dispersed state in bottom liquid, then taking out the bottom liquid, and recovering the granules of the heavy impurities from the bottom liquid in (D) a solid liquid-separating process.
