PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided manuscript transporting device equipped with a manuscript inverting mechanism involving less risk of jamming or deterioration of the read picture. SOLUTION: The double-sided manuscript transporting device transports a manuscript sheet to the reading position, and by inverting eject rollers pinching the trailing edge of the manuscript sheet for reading the reverse surface, transports the manuscript sheet again to the reading position via an inversion path, wherein the eject rollers 117 are arranged above and a pinch roller 123 is arranged below and fixed, and the eject rollers are pressed to the pinch roller for separating the eject rollers approximately upward centering on the rotary shaft of a transport unit, in which the separation is generated by a releasing lever 305. The drive system is furnished with two transmitting routes which are driven inversely to each other, one being connected through a torque limiter 201 while the other being connected through an electromagnetic clutch 202.
