PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for an internal combustion engine which achieves a weight reduction so as to enhance rotation speed and output of an internal combustion engine while mitigating stress concentration in a crown part by differing shapes on a thrust side and an anti-thrust side. SOLUTION: A piston 13 for an internal combustion engine is equipped with a crown part, with a land part 74 and skirt part 75 cylindrically extended from an edge of the crown part, and with a cup-shaped support part 78 formed on a reverse surface 77 of the crown part to form a spherical joint with the small end part of a connecting rod, wherein the cup-shaped support part 78 and the land part 74 are integrally coupled with radial ribs 81A, 81B.
