<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold cathode tube unit for liquid crystal panel illumination capable of realizing miniaturization of the liquid panel device while securing a length of the cold cathode tube, capable of preventing breakage of lead wire. <P>SOLUTION: The cold cathode tube unit has a linearly extended cold cathode tube 1 having electrode terminals 2, 3 at both end parts; and first and second holders 10, 20 mounted on both end parts of the cold cathode tube 1 drawing out lead wires 4, 5 connected to the respective electrode terminals 2, 3 in a direction perpendicular to the extending direction of the cold cathode tube 1. The lead wire 4 drawn out from the first holder 10 is drawn around the outside of the first holder 10, backside of the cold cathode tube 1, and outside of the second holder 20, and bundled together with the lead wire 5 drawn out from the second holder 20. Grooves 15, 25 are formed on the side face of the first and second holders 10, 20 in a direction parallel with the direction in which the lead wires 4, 5 are drawn out.
