<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is reduced in temperature dependency and cell thickness dependency. <P>SOLUTION: As an optical retardation film 88, a retardation is used which has retardation such that light passing through a liquid crystal element 80, the retardation film 88, and a polarizing plate 87a has achromatic color when no voltage is applied to liquid crystal. Further, the liquid crystal is aligned as determined by a couple of substrates when no voltage is applied, and aligned more obliquely to the perpendicular direction of the substrates when a voltage is applied than when no voltage is applied in such a direction that the retardation of the liquid crystal cancels the retardation of the retardation film 88. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
