摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of enhancing a display light quantity and contrast in transmission and reflection modes by optimally utilizing an optical compensation film, and to provide an electronic apparatus using the liquid crystal device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has a first retardation plate suitably applied for a transflective liquid crystal display and using a discotic liquid crystal film of hybrid alignment compensating a tilt of a liquid crystal layer between a liquid crystal cell wherein a twist angle of a liquid crystal is set in the range of 0 to 70&deg; and an upper side polarizing plate and a second retardation plate using a polymer film having three-dimensional refractive index anisotropy giving phase difference in the thickness direction of the liquid crystal cell as one of the upper or a lower retardation plate. As a result, a refractive index can be made to be three-dimensionally nearly uniform when the whole layer structure is seen and visual field angle dependence can be improved. Contrast at the time of reflection display can be enhanced by providing the first retardation plate above a partial reflection layer in the liquid crystal cell as the upper side retardation plate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
