PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment which can manufacture a glass tube little in eccentricity and having uniform wall thickness at a low cost. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing glass tubes being a method of forming a glass tube which has a inner diameter of desired size by heating a quartz glass stock 3 to form a softened region and inserting forming tool 7 into the softened region; a steady rest tool 21 having an outer diameter which is smaller than the inner diameter of a dummy cylinder 17 to be joined with the forming start end of the quartz glass stock 3 and larger than the outer diameter of the forming tool 7, is provided freely attachably and detachably at the rear end in the insertion direction of the forming tool, and the forming tool 7 is inserted into the softened region while suppressing the shaking of the forming tool 7 in the radial direction in the dummy cylinder 17.
