PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus for preventing the occurrence of a recording failure such as the missing of recording because a user does not recognize a deficient free area of a recording medium in the case that the user reserves recording such as timer video recording by using the recording apparatus such as a video recorder that receives a video signal of television broadcast or the like and records the video signal to the recording medium such as a digital versatile disk or a hard disk. SOLUTION: The recording apparatus 1 detects a free area capacity of the recording medium 2 being a video signal recording object (S602), calculates a capacity required for recording processing on the basis of recording reservation information recorded as reservation setting (S603), calculates an arrival time when the free area capacity of the recording medium 2 reaches a prescribed limit on the basis of the free area capacity of the recording medium 2 and the recording reservation information (S605), and outputs the calculated arrival time (S607).
