PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the tension of paper between a paper-feeding roll and a paper-receiving roll in a paper machine, by which the tension can surely be adjusted even by an unskilled operator, which has a low cost, because it is necessary to give a proper tension to the paper between the paper-feeding roll and the paper-receiving roll. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the tension of paper between the paper-feeding roll and the paper-receiving roll in the paper machine comprises connecting the paper-feeding roll 1 to the paper-receiving roll 2 with a gear or a belt through a differential gear 7, controlling an element of the differential gear by the rotation of a pilot motor 8, and controlling the number of revolution of the paper-receiving roll within a range of minus 10 percent to plus 10 percent based on the number of revolution of the paper-feeding roll, or controlling the number of revolution of the paper-feeding roll within a range of minus 10 percent to plus 10 percent based on the number of revolution of the paper receiving roll.
