PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a die by electric discharge machining, eliminating an inconvenience of defective shaping of the die due to deposition of machined chips wherein the die for use in shaping an item such as a cylinder block of an engine has a plurality of slender ribs protruding at predetermined intervals via deep grooves. SOLUTION: When the die 1 for manufacturing a cylinder block is manufactured by electric discharge machining, machining liquid ejection holes 14 and machining liquid suction holes 15 are alternately formed in bottoms of mutually adjacent grooves 13 of an electric discharge machining electrode 11, and when machining liquid is ejected from the ejection holes 14, the machining liquid and machined chips are simultaneously sucked from the suction holes 15, thereby removing the machined chips.
