PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode positioning tool that can be used in a spot welder even if a workpiece is non-planar, e.g., curved in the surface, and also to provide a method for using the tool. SOLUTION: The positioning tool 10 is composed of a sucking part 14 for being sucked on the surface 13 of a workpiece 12, a connecting part 15 extended from the sucking part 14 roughly parallel to the surface 13 of the workpiece 12, and a bar-shaped positioning part 16 extended so as to cross at right angles with the surface 13 of the workpiece 12 by standing the part 16 on the connecting part 15. The center of the sucking part 14 is made to nearly coincide with the axial center 18 of an electrode 17 indicated with an imaginary line, with the positioning part 16 arranged at a position eccentric from the axial center 18 of the electrode 17. The positioning tool 10 enables the sucking part to be installed on the electrode aiming surface which is coaxial with the electrode. Even if the workpiece has a non-planar curved surface, no positional deviation takes place between the sucking part and the electrode.
