<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the fault that occurs when a process cartridge not mounted with a toner tank is mounted on an image forming apparatus body in the process cartridge on and from which the toner tank is mountable and dismountable. <P>SOLUTION: When the process cartridge 100 is mounted on a laser printer body 12, s projection rod 122 which is disposed at the toner tank 120 and projects from the side face of a casing 102 of the process cartridge 100 enters a U-shaped positioning section 160 and the process cartridge 100 is positioned. Also, the projection rod 122 depresses a lever 163 of a switch 162 and turns on the switch 162. And the operation of the laser printer 11 is enabled and the power source to the optical scanner 44 is supplied. Accordingly, even if the process cartridge 100 not mounted with the toner tank 120 is mounted on the laser printer 11, the projection rod 122 is not projected and therefore the process cartridge is not positioned and the switch is held turned off.
