PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating device or an image forming apparatus which prevents heating-up of a non-paper passing section in the case of continuous printing to small-sized paper in an IHF and is good in thermal efficiency during stand-by. SOLUTION: A ceramic heater is arranged in place of a sliding plate disposed in a nip part of a fixing sleeve guide member or a halogen heater is arranged in the central part of a hollow pressure roller. The heating element length of a ceramic heater and halogen heater is set at a length meeting the width of the small size making the passing of the paper possible. In the continuous printing of the small-sized paper, the ceramic heater or the halogen heater is turned on and the supply electric power to the IHF is lowered. In the standby, the pressure roller is directly warmed by controlling the temperature with the ceramic heater or the halogen heater. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
