PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for directly metallizing many kinds of plastics. SOLUTION: Plastic surfaces are subjected to etching and activation, are contacted with a metal salt and/or metal complex-containing solution, and are next contacted with a sulfide solution, so as to form a metal sulfide complex on each plastic surface. Before metallizing, the activator metal complex present in the form of sulfide or polysulfide is reduced to metal, so as to form a conductive layer, and the metal layer is directly electrolytically deposited.
