The invention relates to a method for creating flat surfaces on the circumference of polymer optical fibres with a round cross-section by machining. According to said method, a polymer fibre is spirally wound on a mandrel, which has an essentially eccentric cross-section with at least one radially projecting sector, in which the radius is constant or diminishes in a linear manner at an increasing distance from the circumferential angle on both sides of the apex with the greatest radius. The polymer fibre is then faced in the radially projecting sector of the mandrel with the aid of a high quality paring tool. Finally, the polymer fibre is cut into several pieces, which can then be used to produce splitters. |
