PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of an apparatus, and also to surely prevent defective transfer on a sheet in a monochromatic transfer mode. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a belt position changing means for changing the position of a transfer/transporting belt 20 between a whole color abutting position where the transfer/transporting belt 20 comes in contact with the circumferential surfaces of all the photoreceptor drums 131 and a monochromatic contact position where the belt 20 abuts with only the photoreceptor drum 131 of a black unit 13K, and the belt position changing means is constituted so that the position of the belt 20 may be changed to the whole color abutting position when the paper P reaches the photoreceptor drum 131 of the black unit 13K and also just before the trailing end of the paper P is separated from a pair of resist rollers 154 in a state where the belt 20 is positioned and set in the monochromatic contact position, and also, the belt 20 may be returned to the monochromatic abutting position after the trailing end of the paper P is separated from the pair of resist rollers 154.
