OPERATING METHOD OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of operating an internal combustion engine which allows for an increase in an exhaust enthalpy by an easy method. SOLUTION: A fuel is pre-injected into an air intake pipe (5) of the internal combustion engine (1) when an air intake valve (10) is closed. An overlap between the exhaust valve (20) of at least one cylinder (15) and the intake valve (10) is arranged such that the exhaust valve (20) of at least one cylinder (15) is still open when the intake valve (10) of at least one cylinder (15) of the internal combustion engine (1) is open in an intake stroke. This allows the pre-injected fuel to reach the exhaust system(25) of the internal combustion engine (1) to be ignited in the exhaust system (25) with a scavenging mass which similarly reaches in the exhaust system (25).
