PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization inhibitor capable of efficiently inhibiting the polymerization of an easily polymerizable compound having a polymerizable double bond in the molecule such as (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylic ester and styrene; and to provide a method for producing the easily polymerizable compound by using the polymerization inhibitor. SOLUTION: The polymerization at the production of the easily polymerizable compound is inhibited by using the polymerization inhibitor containing a naphthol derivative exemplified by a substituted or nonsubstituted alkoxynaphthol as an active ingredient in a process such as distillation of the easily polymerizable compound.
