PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE FOR IONTOPHORESIS

A polymerizable composition comprising a monomer component and a nonpolymerizable component, which is compatible with but not copolymeriable with the monomer, is prepared. The polymerizable composition is formed into a film. The polymerizable composition in the film is polymerized to form a film having a structure comprising the nonpolymerizable component dispersed in a polymer having a crosslinked structure. The nonpolymerizable component is removed from the film, and, if necessary, an ion exchange group is introduced into the polymer to produce an ion exchange membrane for iontophoresis. When the ion exchange membrane thus obtained is applied to an iontophoresis apparatus and an ionic medicament contained in a medicament-containing part in the apparatus is permeated into an organism through the ion exchange membrane by electrophoresis, not only an ionic medicament having a small formula weight but also a medicinal ion having a formula weight of about 500 to 1000 can be efficiently administered to the organism.
