The humidifier for a gas flow has a fluid atomizer (23) installed inside a flow passage (2) and a droplet separator (24) downstream of the fluid atomizer. Means (38) are provided to determine the fluid mass flow separated in the droplet separator, and a regulator which is switched by the difference between the mass flow fed to the atomizer and separated mass flow as a regulating variable, and the position of the operating component (34) as a correcting variable. An independent claim is included for a method for the humidifying of a gas flow by the proposed system.
