An energy-saving automatic washing machine, has additional leaching containers (B1) and a heat exchanger (CR) for extracting waste heat of a wash operation for use in a subsequent washing operation. A control computer runs a program which alters the sequence of washing programs in a washing session for optimal energy efficiency.
