PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an entirely new phosphor composition emitting warm-color light (especially red color). SOLUTION: The phosphor composition comprises a composition represented by a compositional formula of aM<SB>3</SB>N<SB>2</SB>-bAlN-cSi<SB>3</SB>N<SB>4</SB>äwherein, M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; and a, b and c are each a numerical value satisfying 0.2≤a/(a+b)≤0.95; 0.05≤b/(b+c)≤0.8; and 0.4≤c/(c+a)≤0.95} as a main part of a phosphor matrix. A light-emitting device is obtained by using the phosphor composition 2 and further a light-emitting element 1 as a luminescence source and combining the phosphor composition 2 with the light-emitting element 1 so as to cover the light-emitting element 1 with the phosphor composition 2.
