PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving rate of fuel consumption and reducing its weight. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine changes opening and closing time of a valve when low load and fixed load are applied and performs combustion once per two rotation of a crank shaft, namely, performs 4-cycle driving. When the internal combustion engine has high load, it changes opening and closing time of the valve and performs combustion once per one rotation of the crank shaft for generating output of about twice the exhaust amount when compared with 4-cycle, namely, performs opening and closing operation of the valve of 2-cycle for driving. When performing 2-cycle driving, an exhaust valve is actuated alternately by one/two rotation(s) of a cam shaft in one rotation of the crank shaft. A spherical rotary opening and closing valve may be used, the cam shaft may not be formed, and mechanical inertia resistance may be reduced to increase efficiency. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
