A refuse treatment apparatus (10) capable of reducing/extinguishing the volume of refuse by decomposing the refuse with microorganism while the refuse is efficiently agitated, comprising a treatment tank (14) which performs a refuse extinguishing treatment by decomposing the refuse with the microorganism and in which both the microorganism and the refuse are stored and an agitating means (18) agitating both the microorganism and the refuse. The agitating means (18) further comprises a plurality of agitation tools (66a) and (66b) arranged apart a specified distance from each other in the axial direction of a rotating shaft (54). The agitationtools (66a) and (66b) further comprise paddle arms (70a) and (70b) disposed oppositely to each other in the diameter direction of the rotating shaft (54) and blades (72a) and (72b) disposed apart a specified distance from the inside wall surface of the treatment tank (14) and tilted relative to the axes of the paddle arms (70a) and (70b). One blade (72a) is tilted forward in a direction that the front side thereof nears the rotating shaft (54) in the rotating direction of the paddle arm (70a) and the other blade (72b) is tilted backward in a direction that the rear side thereof nears the rotating shaft (54) in the rotating direction of the paddle arm (70b).
