The invention relates to a method for producing mixed particles consisting of a refractory metal oxide core which is inert and not or weakly-luminescent and coated with a nanostructured luminescent metal oxide layer, containing at least 1 % by weight of lanthanide ions whose crystallite size is less than 100 nm, preferably less than 50 nm, involving, in particular, an essential lyophilization stage and the nanoparticles obtainable by said method.
