PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device for a motor which is reduced in power consumption of the starting device and is effective in power consumption energy, by reducing the power consumption of a heating element. SOLUTION: The starting device for a motor having a main coil winding and an auxiliary coil winding comprises a thermistor of positive characteristics connected to the auxiliary coil winding in series; a thermostat 5 connected to the thermistor of positive characteristics and opened/closed by heat effect; a heating element 6 connected in parallel with the thermistor of positive characteristics and the thermostat 5 to impart heat influence to the thermostat 5; and case 21 enclosing the heating element and a switch. The switch is held in between the heating element and the case, and a heat insulating layer is provided, at least partially on the contact section between the thermostat 5 and the case 21, resulting in reduction of heat loss to other than the thermostat 5 of the heating element 6, and the power consumption of the starting device.
