摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably perform combustion when a combustion mode is changed to homogeneous combustion at lean air fuel ratio from stratified combustion at lean air fuel ratio and is changed to stratified combustion at lean air fuel ratio from homogeneous combustion at lean air fuel ratio. SOLUTION: When the combustion mode need to be changed to homogeneous lean combustion from stratified lean combustion, a command to change a condition of the intake air flow changing means under a first condition to a second condition is issued to perform homogeneous stoichiometric combustion forming roughly homogeneous air fuel mixture in whole inside of a cylinder and burning the same under stoichiometric condition, or homogeneous rich combustion forming roughly homogeneous air fuel mixture in whole inside of the cylinder and burning the same at rich air fuel ratio for a predetermined period of time. When combustion mode need to be changed to stratified lean combustion from homogeneous lean combustion, a command to change the condition of the intake air flow changing means from the second condition to the first condition, and homogeneous stoichiometric combustion or homogeneous rich combustion is performed for the predetermined period of time.
