PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing special yarn partly having slubs thicker than the standard thickness, with their lengths and pitches in accordance with respective predetermined design patterns. SOLUTION: The method comprises the following practice: Using a production machine where a front roller and a back roller constituting a draft part are driven by separate variable-speed motors respectively, the front roller is speed-varied based on a design pattern DP indicating the variation in the thickness of spun yarn memorized in a memory to produce the objective special yarn SY corresponding to the design pattern DP. A spun length La for the period of accelerating the front roller in varying the thickness of the spun yarn is predicted. A point when a length equivalent to the deduction of the spun length La from the slub length L corresponding to the design pattern DP is spun is set to the point of starting acceleration in spinning a portion(slub S) thicker than the standard thickness portion(standard portion YO) of the spun yarn, thus making a variable-speed control of the front roller.
