PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing anilides that is convenient and environmentally friendly because an easily handleable oxidizing agent is used and metal or the like are not used. SOLUTION: The anilide represented by general formula (3) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each H, an alkyl and R<SB>6</SB>is hydroxy, an alkyl or the like) is produced by allowing an indole represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each H, an alkyl or the like; R<SB>4</SB>is H, an alkyl or the like) to react with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a nitrile represented by formula (2) (wherein R<SB>5</SB>is an alkyl or the like) under basic conditions. Thereby the objective anilides are simply and easily produced by using readily available raw materials, safe and noncorrosive hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent and an environmentally friendly activating agent.
