PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens system in which wavelength dependency of lens characteristics is small even in the case that operating wavelengths are spread over a wide band. SOLUTION: The lens system for converting a luminous flux emitted from a light source into collimated beams or convergent beams, is constituted by combining a lens 1 which is a convex lens in which birefringent substance is used and a lens 2 which is a concave lens in which a magnetic garnet thick film is used. At this time, the birefringent substance is selected from among TiO<SB>2</SB>, Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, XVO<SB>4</SB>( X is either of Y, La, Ga, Lu, Eu), LiNbO<SB>3</SB>and LiTaO<SB>3</SB>.
