A negative electrode material for a lithium secondary cell in which cycle characteristics and safety are enhanced by suppressing dendrite growth caused by reaction of lithium metal with an organic electrolyte during charge/discharge operation. A base for a lithium secondary cell negative electrode (5) where a lithium metal film (3) is formed on a base material and an inorganic solid electrolyte membrane (4) is formed thereon is made of an electric insulator such as a polyethylene film (1). One having an electric insulator layer provided on the interface between a metal base and a lithium metal film may also be used as the base.
