A de=icing aid, e.g. for vehicle locks, comprises a portable battery powered unit with a warm air blower (12) which delivers a stream of warm air to a removable flexible nozzle (19) which is inserted into the lock. The unit has a fresh air intake (22), electric heating strips, a control switch (33) and an integral light (21) for night use. The warm air blower melts the ice in the lock and dries off the condensate for an improved effect. The integral light can be a simple LED. The nozzle is stored in a hole in the module.
