<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a plasma display panel which is capable of stable high-speed writing and can suppress an increase in black luminance. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for driving the plasma display panel, an initialization period of a plurality of sub-fields consists of one of an all-cell initializing operation in which all discharge cells to perform image display are discharged for initialization or a selective initializing operation in which discharge cells having performed sustain discharging in the last sub-field are selectively discharged for initialization. Here, a plurality of sub-fields are provided with the initialization period of the all-cell initializing operation so that the selective initializing operation is performed in the sub-field right after a sub-field where the all-cell initializing operation is performed, and an writing operation of a plurality of sub-fields is controlled in accordance to whether the all-cell initializing operation is performed and whether continuous light emission is performed in the plurality of sub-fields. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
