<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a thermoplastic organic composition having dramatically improved ductility, transparency, and water resistance, and a thermoplastic organic composition obtained by the manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the thermoplastic organic composition comprises a step of extruding starch in the presence of carbon dioxide gas or a compound that generates carbon dioxide gas when heated as well as water, under a condition wherein the carbon dioxide gas is in the supercritical or sub-supercritical state.
