PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid trouble that melt sticking of toner occurs by constituting an image forming apparatus so that the relative moving speed of an intermediate transfer member to an image carrier may be variable and operating it so that the relative moving speed of the intermediate transfer member to the image carrier may be different relative speed from that when a toner image is transferred to the intermediate transfer member in a certain period when the toner image is not transferred to the intermediate transfer member. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is constituted so that the Vickers hardness of the surface of the intermediate transfer member may be larger than that of the surface of the image carrier, the surface roughness of the intermediate transfer member may be always larger than that of an initial photoreceptor drum, and the relative moving speed of the intermediate transfer member to the image carrier may be variable.
