PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external electrode type discharge lamp which has external electrodes that are highly reliable and have a long life. SOLUTION: The mercury-fluorescent lamp (discharge lamp) comprises a glass bulb 11, and the external electrodes 12A, 12B which are glued on the surface of both ends of the glass bulb 11, respectively. The external electrodes 12A, 12B are constituted of metal sleeves. The glass bulb 11 and the external electrodes 12A, 12B of the metal sleeves are glued together by heat melting sealing glasses (frit glasses) 13 applied between the bulb 11 and the electrodes 12A, 12B.
