PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a manuscript sheet ejected to a manuscript ejection tray to be viewed easily from outside and be taken out easily. SOLUTION: A manuscript transport device according to the present invention is structured so that the manuscript sheet with its image read is ejected to an intermediate tray 113 when the manuscript sheet has a comparatively small size and is dropped onto the manuscript ejection tray 104 through the intermediate tray 113. An ejection roller couple 113A is installed at the forefront of the intermediate tray 113, and at the time of double-sided reading, switch-back is conducted by the use of the intermediate tray 113. Thereby a manuscript sheet having a comparatively small size can be ejected to downstream farther than the ejection tray 104 (downstream (to the right) of the the under-part of the intermediate tray 113).
