PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable spot welding method in which mistakes in portable spot welding operation are reduced and in which productivity and quality are improved, and also to provide the equipment. SOLUTION: In performing spot welding on a workpiece 2 set in a tool by means of a portable spot welding gun 1, visible light 7 is projected to the workpiece 2 by a laser pointer 3 to indicate spot welding positions 4 including marks or the like showing spot welding order, and also invisible light is emitted by a projector 5 to the spot welding positions 4 to which the visible light 7 is projected. When the gun tip point of the portable spot welding gun 1 comes in contact with the spot welding positions 4, a light receiver 6 captures reflection light produced by the change in the reflectance of the invisible light emitted to the gun tip point. As a result, the regular spot welding positions 4 for the gun tip point position are detected, with the weldable conditions prepared, and with the welding operation completed by the operator.
