A light source and a projector are provided, in which high luminance and size reduction which recent lamps require can be met, the elongation of a lifetime of the lamp can be realized, and the noises from a cooling fan can be reduced. <??>A light source, including a concave mirror which has a reflecting part 6C that reflects light, non-reflecting parts 6D adjacent to this reflecting part, and permeable ports 6E, 6F that pass through the non-reflecting parts, and which opens forward; a lamp 10 which is arranged in this concave mirror and emits the light; and a light permeable member 8 which covers the opening part of the concave mirror, is characterized in that the convex mirror includes a mesh 12 arranged in a position where it covers the permeable port, and a protective wall 14 for protecting the mesh, which is arranged in a position where direct collision between the mesh and broken pieces of the lamp made by a burst of the lamp is prevented. <IMAGE> |
