A coupling for absorbing sound and to prevent high instantaneous pressures developing comprises rigid end flanges 10, 11 and a central flexible section 12 of an elastomeric material reinforced by layers of " weftless " woven fabric and provided with enlarged annular beads 14. The latter are retained between rims 13 on the flanges and tubes 15, the rims and/or the tubes being radially rolled towards each other, and the tube ends 17 being radially rolled towards the flange. The section 12 may be encircled by a metal band (21), Fig. 2 (not shown), and the beads 14 may be reinforced by hoops (25). A separately moulded liner of plastics material may be inserted into the coupling. |
