The device has grid and data lines (102, 118) crossing each other on a substrate (100) for defining pixel regions (P). A thin film transistor (T) is provided adjacent to the intersection of the lines (102, 118). Chromatic filter patterns (128a- 128c) are disposed in respective pixel regions. A passivation layer is provided on the patterns and is constituted of an inorganic insulating material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device.
