<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic lane line recognition apparatus for vehicles, capable of correctly recognizing a traffic lane line with accuracy when synthesizing photographed images, because of no missing of a dot series corresponding to a far traffic lane line from the photographed images. <P>SOLUTION: The traffic lane line recognition apparatus for vehicles includes an imaging means such as a camera for imaging an area including a road surface in the proceeding direction of a vehicle, a lane line recognition means capable of recognizing at least the traffic lane line of a dashed line shape, such as a white line, on the road surface in the photographed images being taken, and an image synthesis means (S10 to S16) for extending the traffic lane line lengths in the photographed images by synthesizing a plurality of photographed images which are taken at different times. In the above traffic lane line recognition apparatus, the image synthesis means synthesizes the photographed images at a processing stage of producing no change at least in a traffic lane line shape of the photographed images, more specifically, at a stage prior to edge detection (S12), in the traffic lane line recognition processing by the lane line recognition means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
