PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily pulverizable light accumulating strontium aluminate material with improved afterglow luminance and period. SOLUTION: The light accumulating strontium aluminate material containing europium as an activator and dysprosium and/or neodymium as co-activator(s) and contains at least 0.050 wt.% of nitrogen in the composition. The light accumulating strontium aluminate material has a stuffed tridymite structure expressed as SrAl2O4in host crystals and spacing in a range of 0.3120-0.3140 nm in the (-211) plane.
