IMAGE COMMUNICATION APPARATUS, ITS PROCESSING METHOD, CLIENT DEVICE AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication technology which can transmit and receive image data suitable for a communication environment, such as type, etc. of each client's terminal without applying a great burden to a server.

SOLUTION: An image communication apparatus is used in an image communication system having a client device which decodes coded data of coded image by using a video image compression system having a function of scalability and an image communication device for communicating with the coded data. The image communication apparatus includes a storage means for storing coded data of a plurality of layers in a function of the scalability, a selecting means for selecting the encoded data of one or a plurality of layers to be transmitted to the client device of the encoded data of the plurality of the layers stored in the storage means by using the type of the client device, and a transmitting means for transmitting the encoded data of selected one or plurality of layers to the client device.
