<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift register which can normally function even when part of the register becomes faulty, while minimizing the increase of its manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: A shift register (1, 10, 100) has n normal registers (SR (1) to SR (n)) connected in series, n output lines (L1 to Ln) corresponding to the n normal registers, r (r≤n) redundant registers (SR (n+1) to SR (n+r)) connected in series with the n normal registers, and switch circuit (2, 12, 102) selectively connected between the normal and redundant registers and the output lines. The switch circuit is connected to the output lines corresponding to the n normal registers in a normal mode. In the presence of a fault register, the switch circuit skips the fault register and connects the normal registers located upstream or downstream thereof, disables the fault register, and connects normal ones of the normal registers and the redundant registers corresponding in number to the fault register to the n output lines. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
